Millot 2017 SOLD OUT

Léon Millot is a red hybrid grape similar to Marechal Foch.  Our Millot is full of fresh raspberry and blackberry flavors,  which balances nicely with the light contribution of toast, vanilla and spice from older American oak barrels.  It is light in style, similar to a Beaujolais, and is a wonderful easy drinking anytime red, and a great choice for a summer.   This wine is not made to be aged for longer than 2 – 3 years.

Product Description

Leon Millot (“Millot”) is a red variety of hybrid grape.  It was created in 1886 in Colmar, Alsace, by the French Viticulturist Eugene Kuhlman by crossing the hybrid grape Millardet et Grasset 101-14 (which is vitis vinifera x vitis rupestris) with the vitis vinifera Gold riesling.   Kuhlman also developed the hybrid grapes Marechal Foch (“Foch”) , Marechal Joffre and Lucie Kuhlmann from the same crossing trials and they are all related. We grow Millot on C3309 rootstock and find it is a very manageable vine when grown VSP and with two pairs of cordons.   It ripens early compared to other red varietals – we usually harvest it 2 weeks before our Pinots.
